I matriculated from Aliwal North High School. I also completed my Bachelors Degree in Education for Intermediate and Senior Phase (Grade 4-9).
Experience
Since I started studying part time, I also started to teach full time. I believe that having practical, hands-on experience of teaching whilst studying theory, made the approach and understanding towards implementing what you learn better, as what happens in a classroom can't always be compared with what they teach you in textbooks. I have 5 years teaching experience. I have taught Creative Arts and Physical Education for Grade 1-3; all 6 learning areas in Grade 4 (9 subjects - old curriculum); English Home Language for Grade 4-7; Technology and Life Orientation (now Life Skills) for Grade 6-7; Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Life Orientation (now Life Skills) for Grade 7-9; and Computer skills for Grade R-7. I am familiar with CAPS. I was also involved in hourly homework classes after school. I believe a learner should enjoy the learning process, otherwise they can become bored and uninterested. As a tutor, you should be the facilitator and the learner should be involved in the learning process. To allow the learner to identify strengths and weaknesses. If a learner identifies a weakness positively, there is room for a more positive change instead of negative change or no change at all. By finding the balance and also making use of remedial work and by motivating learners I will help learners with their homework, projects, tests, examinations as well as the work that they struggle to understand (tutoring).
